Terms of use

Atom follows the same speech rule as X: an opinion is not censored. An unpopular, blunt, political, religious, or rude post stays, unless it crosses into banned material. These are product rules, not a legal opinion.

No censorship of opinion

A post is not removed only because it is unpopular, critical, blunt, or out of step with the majority. Tone by itself is not a violation. The assistant does not label an uncomfortable opinion false and does not block someone for it.

What is allowed

  • Criticism of politicians, governments, public offices, and public decisions.
  • Criticism of companies, business owners, products, and services.
  • Discussion of religion, ideologies, economics, science, and public problems.
  • Unpopular views, satire, sarcasm, and emotional language.
  • Sharp arguments and harsh words, when they are not a threat, discrimination, stalking, or another breach of the law and these rules.

What is forbidden

  • Child sexual abuse material, sexual violence against children, and sexual exploitation of minors.
  • Incitement to violence and discrimination by race, ethnic origin, or another protected trait.
  • Real threats of killing, physical attack, or harm.
  • Incitement to terrorism and organizing terrorist activity.
  • Publishing someone's private data in order to threaten, stalk, or harm them.
  • Fraud, phishing, and malicious schemes.
  • Intimate material without the consent of the people in it.
  • A sustained, targeted harassment campaign and stalking.
  • Material that applicable law directly forbids.

“You’re an idiot, and I disagree” does not by itself lead to a block. Sharp criticism of a public figure is not removed for its tone. Criticism of a religion or an ideology is allowed. Calling for people to be hounded for their religion, origin, or beliefs is not. Criticism of an action is not an attack on origin or another protected trait.

How this is checked

  • A report names a specific post, comment, or account, and a reason.
  • An automatic check may flag a disputed case, but it only passes the case on.
  • A person makes the decision. There is no automatic block for a political opinion, criticism, or a sharp sentence.
  • If a post is limited, the author sees the reason, the rule it cites, and can appeal.
  • Ordinary insults, criticism, and unpopular views do not earn penalty points. A measure depends on severity, repetition, and context.

Measures once a rule is broken

  • A first minor case. A warning and an explanation of the rule.
  • A repeat. A temporary limit on the specific function.
  • A sustained pattern. A temporary suspension that states its length.
  • A serious violation. A limit or suspension of the account, with an appeal where that applies.
  • Signs of illegal activity. Action under the law and the set procedure, including lawful orders.

What this version already does

A report goes to a person, hiding a post requires a written reason, and the author can appeal. Timed account bans and public moderation reports are not switched on yet. Until that procedure exists, we do not pretend an account can already be “banned for 30 days”.
